The context

In a situation of domestic violence, quickly finding the right information and identifying the support services available can be decisive. That information needs to be clear, accessible and matched to where each person is.

The work

In 2017, Waymotion developed for the Comissão para a Cidadania e a Igualdade de Género (CIG, the commission for citizenship and gender equality) the AppVD — APPoio Contra a Violência Doméstica. The mobile application allowed users to consult the resources of the national support network, search by category and location and see the nearest services on the map, making it easier to get in touch with and be referred to the right organisations.

The work included the design of the user experience and the visual identity of the application, development for different mobile platforms and integration with the information already held in CIG’s Guia de Recursos.

In 2020, the collaboration extended to the restructuring of the Guia de Recursos itself. The solution was migrated to a more current technology and integrated into the architecture of the CIG website, establishing an automatic link with AppVD. Features were also introduced for bulk information loading and for georeferencing resources by municipality and district, based on the Carta Administrativa Oficial de Portugal.

In 2023, Waymotion carried out a further engagement of preventive, corrective and evolutionary maintenance of the Guia de Recursos and of updating AppVD. This phase focused on security, performance, user experience, the backoffice and adapting the application to the most recent versions of the mobile platforms.

What it left behind

The technical continuity of the solution extended beyond the formal maintenance cycles. Even during transitions between procurement procedures, Waymotion continued to host the infrastructure, the database and the backoffice, along with the security and backup mechanisms the service needs to operate.

This continued collaboration reflects an essential dimension of technology applied to the public interest: bringing information closer, easing access to the support network and helping those who are looking for help find an answer more quickly.
