Technological and functional evolution of the LNEG intranet on Liferay, creating a shared digital space for internal information and communication.
The context
In a scientific institution with different units, laboratories and support areas, internal information is naturally spread across many services and owners. Making it accessible means organising the content, identifying its audiences and creating simple ways to publish, search and update it.
The work
In 2023, the Laboratório Nacional de Energia e Geologia (LNEG, the national laboratory for energy and geology) contracted Waymotion for the technological and functional evolution of its intranet. Built on the Liferay platform, the solution involved analysing and reorganising the existing information, defining the content structure and preparing the features needed by the different user profiles.
The platform was designed as a common point of access to news, events, documentation, contacts, standards, forms and other resources supporting staff. The work also included integration with the institutional directory, allowing users to be synchronised and access to content to be managed according to their profiles.
The backoffice was prepared so that the responsible areas could publish and update their own information directly, encouraging a more distributed management of content and greater editorial autonomy.
What it left behind
This project reflects a less visible dimension of digital transformation: creating the conditions for information to circulate inside an organisation and to be found and used by those who need it.
