Design, automation and execution of quality tests for the maritime applications of the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA).
The context
Applications used in a European context bring together different systems, services and sources of information, and have to meet demanding requirements of operation, performance and interoperability. Systematically checking how they behave is essential before new versions go into production.
The work
Between 2021 and 2024, Waymotion took part, as a subcontractor to Axians, in the provision of testing and quality assurance services for the maritime applications of the Agência Europeia da Segurança Marítima. The engagement covered the analysis of requirements and technical documentation, the preparation of test plans, specifications and cases, the execution of the tests, the recording and follow-up of anomalies and the production of the corresponding reports and evidence.
The work addressed different software components and versions, including geospatial services based on OGC standards, Earth observation data processing, CleanSeaNet features and advanced queries intended to support FRONTEX operations. Continuous integration processes were used, along with tools for test management, execution and automation, namely Robot Framework and JIRA/Xray.
What it left behind
The experience gained in this work contributed to Waymotion taking part, in 2024, in preparing the bid for EMSA’s new framework agreement for testing and quality assurance, awarded in 2025 to the consortium formed by Axians and Bilbomática, with Waymotion remaining as a subcontracted technical partner.
This reference reflects Waymotion’s ability to work in international teams and in complex technological environments, safeguarding the quality, traceability and reliability of software used in the context of the European institutions.
