Development, redesign and evolution of the LNEG institutional website, following the communication needs of a scientific institution.
The context
An institution dedicated to research in energy and geology produces and shares a significant volume of knowledge: projects, publications, services, laboratories, events, news and information addressed to the scientific community, to businesses, to public administration and to citizens.
The work
In 2018, the Laboratório Nacional de Energia e Geologia (LNEG, the national laboratory for energy and geology) entrusted Waymotion with the development and redesign of its institutional website. The work sought to organise this diversity of content into a coherent digital presence, able to communicate the institution’s scientific and technological activity and to ease access to its resources and services.
The portal continued to evolve through corrective and evolutionary maintenance, covering technology updates, content reorganisation, usability and accessibility improvements and the development of new features. This work also came to include the development and support of the web interface of LNEG-LCOH — Calculadora do Custo Nivelado do Hidrogénio, the levelised cost of hydrogen calculator.
The 2025–2026 cycle carries this path forward, covering the evolution of the institutional portal and the progressive improvement of its accessibility and user experience. In 2026, it also included the reworking of the Products and Services pages according to the Ágora Design System, making the presentation of LNEG’s scientific and technological offer clearer.
What it left behind
This reference reflects a collaboration built over time, in which Waymotion has followed the evolution of LNEG’s digital presence, bringing together communication, technology, accessibility and the sharing of scientific knowledge.
