The context
Information about the vineyard sector crosses different territorial references: parcels, parishes and wine regions. Coherence between those boundaries is an important condition for interpreting and using the sector’s data.
The work
In 2014, Waymotion carried out work to align vineyard parcels with the Carta Administrativa Oficial de Portugal (CAOP, the official administrative map) and to harmonise the boundaries of wine regions and parishes in the Sistema de Informação da Vinha e do Vinho, the vine and wine information system.
The work addressed the geographic base of the system, bringing parcel information closer to the administrative references in use. It is one of Waymotion’s earliest documented references and reflects a capability that has accompanied its path ever since: working on data quality at source so that organisations can put it to use.
